Remember Michelle from Our Redonkulous Life? We spotlighted her story with blogging last month. Today we share her goals with blogging and her plans of doing one thing that scares you helps her to reach those goals on this week’s Motivational Monday.
“Our Redonkulous Life started out as a frugal family adventure sharing. It has changed to lean more towards personal development. In the long run, I would love to be a life coach. I see the blog making a shift more to that aspect than family adventures.
Taking courses to become a life coach while also working on myself is my main goal. Seeing what works and what doesn’t is one of my first steps. My experiences will be shared on Our Redonkulous Life. How could people ever want me as their life coach, if I have not practiced what I would be speaking about?
My greatest blogging challenge is self-doubt. If what I am doing is going to make a difference, I have to work through the self doubt. My motivational quote is from Eleanor Roosevelt. She said, ‘Do one thing every day that scares you. Those small things that make us uncomfortable help us build the courage to do the work we do.'”
We’d love for our bloggers to share one thing they have done in their life that scared them, and what you learned from trying it. We might feature you on our next Motivational Monday.
One Thing that Scares You
One of the biggest things I did as a teenager that was always scary was telling a guy how I felt about him, but it helped me to move on knowing that they didn’t like me in return. One time though, the guy did like me in return after I shared how I felt. He later became my husband. If I hadn’t done that then things in my life would probably be a bit if not a lot different.
Go For No!
Similarly, there is a personal development book called, Go for No! that basically addresses Michelle’s favorite quote. At a leadership training, we did an exercise where we had to go for no. Statistically, after every 4-5 no’s, you’ll get a Yes. Once you learn to go for no, then it’s not as scary. Furthermore, when you expect the answer to be no, it’s a lot more exciting when the answer is Yes!
Oftentimes, no doesn’t mean no forever. It just means no right now. Finding a yes sometimes just requires the right conditions – the right time, right place, right person. Therefore do not get discouraged, when you get no’s in life. AS they say in their book, “Yes is the destination. No is how you get there.” Getting the answer no can lead us down the paths in life we need to take to learn and to grow. Remember it’s not about perfection. It’s okay to do something scary that you don’t know much about. We don’t need to know everything to jump in. We can see other’s experiences and find courage in doing something scary. Remember growth is uncomfortable. Do One Thing that Scares You! From a show a like, Castle, the main character tells his daughter, “Rejection isn’t failure. Failure is giving up.“
